What is forgiven in Hebrew? Does this term have some deeper significance that doesn't transfer through to English?

The word forgiven in Psalm 32:1 is often translated as “lifted” (nasa) – but when used in relation to sins it’s speaking of God dismissing the offense that our sin is to him.

It’s this dismissal of sin that Abraham pled with God about concerning Sodom – and that Joseph’s brothers pled with Joseph concerning their sin against him.
