What does the term maschil or maskil mean? What is its definition?

The term maschil occurs 14 times in the Old Testament – all of which are found in this book of Psalms.

The first occurrence of it is in Psalm 32.

It likely means something like a skillful song or a contemplative song. That latter option would make sense in Psalm 32 since that's a meditative or reflective psalm.
