What made David write Psalm 27? What had he experienced that caused him to write this psalm?

David wrote Psalm 27 as the title for that psalm in the Septuagint reads "before he was anointed." This was likely before his third anointing, when he was anointed king over all Israel.

His second recorded anointing was when he was installed as king of Judah only after Saul's death.

And of course, David's first anointing was when Samuel the prophet came to him at his father's house.
